Do You Need Locking Caps On Refrigerant Access Ports!

Updated: Feb 26

After servicing or adding refrigerant to an air conditioning system, add locking caps to the service ports if the system is in an accessible area. This reduces the chance of someone tampering with the refrigerant charge. The IMC code that requires this may or may not be adopted/enforced by your local municipality. However, it is a really good idea to do so to keep everyone safe and to keep the refrigerant charge intact.

IMC Code 1101.10:"Refrigerant circuit access ports located outdoors shall be fitted with locking-type tamper-resistant caps or shall be otherwise secured to prevent unauthorized access.

Exception: This section shall not apply to refrigerant circuit access ports on equipment installed in controlled areas such as on roofs with locked access hatches or doors."

Great article! I really appreciate your insights on the importance of locking caps for refrigerant access ports. It’s such a vital aspect that often gets overlooked. Just like in the FNAF game, where every small decision can lead to big outcomes, ensuring those ports are properly secured can prevent costly leaks and repairs. Have you considered discussing the types of caps available or how they affect performance? That could be super useful for readers!
